Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) is inviting local and international firms to develop and operate the Uligan Yacht Marina through an expression of interest (EOI) open until 21 September 2026, as part of plans to expand maritime tourism in the northern Maldives.
MPL is currently developing the core infrastructure for the Uligan Yacht Marina site, including the marina basin and access channel, a breakwater island and coastal protection works, a reinforced concrete jetty and floating pontoon system, as well as an ISPS-compliant international entry facility.
To advance the project, MPL is seeking experienced marina operators, hospitality developers, tourism investors and destination developers to partner in the development, operation and commercialisation of the marina. The selected partner will be expected to pursue projects on the designated site that may include a marina hotel or boutique resort, restaurants, cafés, retail areas, crew and recreational spaces, and watersports, diving and wellness facilities.
For marina operations, responsibilities will include managing berthing, providing utilities, fuel, waste and technical services, handling maintenance and day-to-day operations, and meeting health, safety, environmental and regulatory requirements. The selected partner will also promote the destination internationally, establish partnerships with charter companies and tourism platforms, and develop commercial strategies to increase marina traffic and revenue.
Through the partnership, the project aims to attract private investment, bring existing yacht traffic into a structured marina economy, support tourism and lifestyle activities and maintain long-term commercial and operational sustainability. The latest development follows MPL’s award of the marina construction project to SASe Construction in March 2026 and the signing of a land lease agreement with Uligan Council in August 2026.
