V&A Waterfront’s Quay 7 superyacht marina has received an innovation award at the 2026 Western Cape Economy Innovation Awards in Cape Town, as work continues on the 230 million ZAR (approximately $13.7 million USD) marina development.

The project won in the infrastructure and connectivity category during the awards ceremony held on 1 June at Cape Town City Hall. Hosted by the Cape Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Cape Higher Education Consortium, the event recognises initiatives that have made contributions to economic growth and employment in the region.

According to the organisers, nominations were assessed based on measurable economic impact, the practical application of innovation and the number of local businesses and employees benefiting from the initiative.

Quay 7 superyacht marina was one of 13 recipients recognised across six categories, with awards also presented across core industries and business, workforce and human capital, research and development, capital and finance, and public policy and support institutions.

Speaking during the event, Michael Lawrence, executive director of the National Clothing Retail Federation of South Africa, said: “Tonight, we have not simply celebrated individual achievements. We have seen excellence across an entire economic ecosystem. No organisation builds an economy alone. Progress emerges when many actors work together with a shared purpose.”

Andre Blaine, executive manager of marine and industrial at the V&A Waterfront, accepted the award on behalf of the project.

In a LinkedIn post after the ceremony, the V&A Waterfront said the marina received the award “in recognition of its contribution to infrastructure, connectivity, growth and development”. The company said the recognition reflects the efforts of teams across the organisation, including its marine & industrial property team and partners involved in the project.

The award comes as the V&A Waterfront continues work on the marina project, which is scheduled for completion in October 2026. The facility will provide dedicated berthing space and support services for superyachts within the city’s working harbour and will also be used for commissioning and export preparation work by local catamaran manufacturers.
