Inaugurated on 8 September, the upgraded tourist port of Poros in southern Greece received nearly €6 million ($6.9 million USD) in investment through the Recovery and Resilience Fund. Tourism minister Olga Kefalogianni attended the ceremony and highlighted the project’s importance to the island and the country’s maritime tourism sector.
The works have added new floating jetties and mooring berths to the port, alongside harbour and building facilities. The upgraded site in Attica also has modern equipment and computerised systems, with infrastructure for electric mobility, renewable energy sources and accessibility measures. Designed to improve the quality and safety of services for travellers, the project is also expected to give the facility a stronger role in the island’s tourism offering, supporting its competitiveness and long-term sustainability.
The ministry said the Poros project is part of its wider investment in the country’s tourist ports through the Recovery and Resilience Fund, most of which has been directed towards upgrading port facilities, including other marina projects in Attica and the Peloponnese.
Deputy minister for climate crisis and civil protection Konstantinos Katsafados, member of parliament for Piraeus A Nikolaos Vlachakos, Poros mayor Georgios Koutouzis and Poros Port Fund chairman Konstantinos Moutzouvis attended the inauguration.
