Marina planning, design and operations are covered in the first two volumes of the eighth edition of the TYHA Code of Practice, developed by The Yacht Harbour Association (TYHA) in partnership with UK-based consultancy Marina Projects. Unveiled at the ICOMIA World Marina Conference in Venice, Italy, the revision draws on input from marina operators and industry representatives worldwide.

The first two volumes fully replace the seventh edition and reflect international standards and practical experience to address the changing needs of the leisure marine industry. The eighth edition also covers other areas of the sector through its third volume on boatyard planning, design and operations and its fourth on the same aspects of superyacht marinas.
Dubai Harbour Marinas and Premier Marinas have welcomed the revision, citing its practical value for day-to-day marina management. Wayne Shepherd, managing director of the Dubai facility, said the marina has relied on the Code as “an important benchmark for marina excellence” and expressed support for its updated approach to emergency preparedness, environmental responsibility, staff competency and smart marina technology. Premier Marinas also contributed to the revision and has already begun applying the new edition to its operations, its chief operating officer John Cervenka said.
Jon White, general manager of TYHA, commented: “The TYHA Code of Practice has been a cornerstone of marina planning, design and operation since its introduction in 1977. Over the decades, its international reach has grown significantly, supported by successive revisions ranging from targeted updates to more substantial developments, reflecting the evolving needs of the ever-expanding global marina industry.”
He added: “TYHA extends its sincere thanks to Mike Ward and his professional and dedicated team at Marina Projects for their significant contribution and commitment to delivering this important new 8th edition.”
Mike Ward, managing director of Marina Projects, said: “The marina industry continues to evolve at an unprecedented pace, and it is vital that the guidance available to marina owners, developers and operators evolves with it. We are delighted to have worked alongside TYHA to create a Code of Practice that reflects today’s industry challenges and opportunities whilst providing a practical framework for achieving and maintaining industry-leading standards.”
