Published in the Official Journal of the European Union, Marina di Imperia’s new tender seeks an operator to complete the remaining construction works and manage designated areas of Porto Turistico di Imperia on Italy’s Ligurian coast. Bidding follows an earlier market consultation that attracted interest from Italian and international operators.

Construction is estimated to cost €148.54 million (more than $167 million USD), excluding tax, and must be completed within six years of the contract signing. The company will provide the approved project plans, which the selected operator will use to prepare the detailed designs and finish the remaining construction.

According to Marina di Imperia, qualified companies can submit bids individually or as a consortium until 12 February 2027, but must request a mandatory site visit by 20 January. Bidders must also offer an annual fee higher than the starting amount of €4.81 million (about $5.4 million), excluding tax.

The contract will allow the selected operator to manage designated commercial areas until 31 August 2090, although Marina di Imperia will retain the 65-year maritime concession granted in September 2025 and responsibility for the site’s overall administration and organisation. Community boating facilities, Calata Anselmi and Banchina Medaglie d’Oro will remain under separate management.

Stefano Gandolfo, sole director of Marina di Imperia, described the tender’s publication as the result of work between the company and Imperia Town Council to restart the project. He said the aim was to establish Imperia as an international destination for recreational boating, drawing on professional expertise from the market and keeping the marina’s management under the direction of the company and the municipality. Gandolfo also pointed to the company’s goal of providing services comparable to those at established marinas in the Mediterranean and the Côte d’Azur.
