The Port of Lavrio has signed a €3.9 million (around $4.5 million USD) contract with Marinetek Adriatic to install new floating breakwaters and pontoons at the Greek port, as authorities continue redevelopment efforts at one of Attica’s busiest maritime gateways.

Marinetek Adriatic

The agreement was signed on 14 May 2026 at the offices of the Lavrio Port Authority following a public tender process that began in October 2024. The project is expected to support marina operations and vessel traffic at Lavrio, which serves routes between Attica and islands in the Aegean, Saronic and Ionian seas.

George Vacondios, director of the Lavrio Port Authority, and Boris Miškić, director of Marinetek Adriatic, signed the contract in the presence of Lavrio mayor Dimitris Loukas and Fanis Karagianis, director of consultancy company Optimum Value.

Under the contract, Marinetek Adriatic will produce and install 19 floating breakwater units and 18 reinforced concrete pontoons. The structures will create six floating piers with a combined length of nearly 500 metres.

The units will be built at the company’s facility in Šibenik, Croatia, before installation at the Port of Lavrio. The project is expected to be completed within eight months, with the upgraded marina set to provide berthing for vessels from 10 to 40 metres in length.

Port of Lavrio

Located at the south-eastern tip of Attica near Athens International Airport, the Port of Lavrio is officially classified as a “Port of International Interest”.

The port handles coastal shipping, cruise traffic, commercial cargo, fishing and yachting. Facilities at the port include passenger service areas, customs and border control infrastructure, parking areas, cargo sections, a fishing shelter and a marina.

Miškić said: “We are confident that this project will contribute significantly to the development of southern Attica and further enhance the standards of nautical tourism in Greece.”
