Marina Port Valencia has been named as the host venue for SailGP races under a three-year agreement that will place the marina on the championship calendar through to 2028. The confirmation sets Valencia as SailGP’s base in Spain and marks the first time the series will race in the city.

The Spain Sail Grand Prix Valencia is scheduled to take place on 5-6 September 2026. The announcement was made following the opening event of the current SailGP season in Perth and confirms Valencia as a long-term venue on the global circuit.

The confirmation comes as Marina Port Valencia continues work to prepare the marina for major international events. Its location along the city’s waterfront and its existing maritime facilities supported its selection as the host venue.

SailGP CEO Russell Coutts said: “We are delighted to welcome Valencia to the SailGP calendar, starting this year. With its sporting heritage and world-class racing conditions, Valencia will become a natural home for SailGP as we continue to grow in Spain. Following Spain’s Season 4 championship title, it is clear that this nation’s passionate and truly global fanbase is a natural fit for the growth of our league, teams and partners.”

The races are expected to bring international teams, sailing professionals, media and spectators to the city. Previous SailGP events have drawn large audiences to host destinations, supporting tourism activities during race periods.

Diego Botín, driver for the Spain SailGP Team, stated: “We are delighted to announce Valencia as the venue for ‘our event’. Los Gallos are coming home, and that is always excellent news.”

Local and regional authorities have also welcomed the agreement. According to the Valencian Government, the event will showcase the region’s experience in hosting international sporting competitions. Valencia City Council said the city’s waterfront offers a suitable setting for an event of this scale.

The move follows four seasons of SailGP racing in Andalucía-Cádiz and marks a new chapter for the championship in Spain.
