Ports de les Illes Balears (PortsIB) has given final approval for more than €2 million ($2.3 million USD) in new installations at the ends of five pontoons at Santa Eulària Marina in Ibiza, Spain. The decision allows concessionaire Merlin to proceed with the privately funded project, subject to environmental conditions.
Santa Eulària Marina sits about 14 kilometres from Ibiza town and has capacity for more than 770 vessels, including those up to 22 metres long. The marina has a harbour master’s office, fuel station, boatyard and nautical services, alongside a commercial area with a supermarket, shops, cafés and restaurants, as well as parking for about 500 vehicles.
Under the approved project, new installations will be added to the ends of five of the marina’s pontoons, C, D, E, F and G. The Government of the Balearic Islands said Merlin will fund the project with a budget of exactly €2,001,738.84 ($2,311,177.64), excluding value added tax. The concessionaire will also pay an annual fee of €54,485.54 ($62,906.16) plus value added tax.
Detailed plans were prepared in June 2026 and secured a favourable technical report from PortsIB on 1 September after the project was found compatible with the general plan for ports of the Balearic Islands and not considered a major change to the marina’s existing facilities. On the environmental side, an assessment under the marine strategy for the Levantine-Balearic demarcation found that the project would not prevent good environmental status as long as 12 conditions are met, including measures for wildlife protection, construction monitoring and pollution prevention.
Merlin must request the next site preparation step within 15 days of receiving formal notice, begin construction within 15 days of its approval and complete the work before a final inspection by PortsIB.
