Marbella Town Council is working with the regional government of Andalusia to extend the concession of Puerto Deportivo Virgen del Carmen (Marbella Marina) from the originally planned 25 years to 50 years.

Mayor Ángeles Muñoz announced the move following meetings with Mario Muñoz-Atanet, Andalusian regional minister for development and mobility, and Carlos Romero, director of the marina. The longer concession is intended to support a major modernisation programme involving investment of more than €16 million (approximately $17.5 million USD).

“I want to thank the regional government for its support for this project, recognising that Marbella wants to make a significant investment in its port,” Muñoz said.

The mayor also sought to reassure existing concession holders. While the extension process continues, the marina has informed operators that rents, community charges and day-to-day operations remain unchanged. Progress is also being made to ensure that businesses holding concessions can retain them and receive priority to continue operating under the extended term.

Puerto Deportivo Virgen del Carmen is located in central Marbella and provides more than 300 berths along with commercial units, restaurants, bars, fuel services, a four-tonne crane, winter storage and a range of nautical activities.
