The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Omaha District, is accepting public comment on a draft environmental assessment for a proposed expansion of Weigand Marina at Lewis and Clark State Recreation Area in Nebraska.

Nebraska Game and Parks

Submitted by the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission, the proposal aims to address growing demand and facility crowding. The project includes adding boat slips, a new ramp, shoreline improvements, a relocated fuel dock, new parking and upgrades to shelters, restrooms and utilities.

The marina expansion layout would increase capacity to 342 boat slips, including:

  • 42 seasonal 12-metre (40-foot) slips
  • 164 seasonal 10-metre (32-foot) slips
  • 96 seasonal eight-metre (26-foot) slips
  • 12 daily-use eight-metre (26-foot) courtesy slips
  • 28 personal watercraft slips

To accommodate the new layout, dredging of both existing and new marina areas is proposed, with material transported via submerged pipe to the Bloomfield area for drying and future use as fill. Plans also include a new permanent breakwater and floating wave attenuators to protect the marina.

Recent data and visitor feedback indicate that current marina facilities are no longer sufficient to accommodate the number of users. The environmental assessment was developed in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act and related regulations.
