Somabay has entered into a new cooperation agreement with EDECS to begin the second phase of developing its marina on Egypt’s Red Sea coast. The partnership outlines plans to expand capacity and upgrade existing infrastructure as part of Somabay’s broader development framework.

Located around 20 minutes from Hurghada International Airport, Somabay covers approximately 1,000 hectares and is bordered by the Red Sea on three sides. The marina serves as a focal point for the area’s tourism activity, with dining, retail and recreational spaces that attract both residents and visitors.

Under the agreement, EDECS will expand the marina basin by about 72,000 m³, raising the total capacity to roughly 260 yachts. The development will also include upgrades to waterfront structures and service areas to accommodate increasing demand and enhance operational efficiency.

According to a report by Mustafa Almahdy of Invest-Gate, Ibrahim El-Messiri, CEO of Somabay, mentioned that the project is part of a long-term plan to reinforce the site’s infrastructure and maintain service quality. He expressed confidence in EDECS’ experience.

Dr. Mahmoud Hassanein, Vice Chairman of EDECS, said the company is committed to completing the project in accordance with quality standards. He added that the expansion reflects EDECS’ continued involvement in key maritime and infrastructure projects in Egypt.

EDECS has more than 30 years of experience in engineering and construction across the Middle East and Africa. The company continues to deliver projects in ports, bridges and coastal areas with a focus on safety and sustainability.
