The shipbuilding company Okamoto Seisakusho has announced that it will officially open Solarina Setoda Marina, a private marina in Onomichi, Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan, on Sunday, 6 September 2026.

Located on Ikuchijima Island in Setoda-cho, almost at the centre of the Seto Inland Sea, the new marina is close to the Ikuchijima-kita Interchange on the Shimanami Kaido. According to Okamoto Seisakusho, the location gives vessel owners access to routes between the islands and a base for their trips, with marina services available on land.

The new marina will provide onshore storage for up to 40 vessels, a lounge reserved for members, a pier with power and water supplies, and a nearby villa for private accommodation. The site will also have a custom factory with an overhead crane and a travel lift, where vessels can receive maintenance and work such as engine removal and refitting, full repainting, and the installation of equipment and fittings.

Okamoto Seisakusho has more than 60 years of experience in shipbuilding, manufacturing hull blocks and working on specialised vessels, including LNG and LPG carriers. The company will operate maintenance and customisation services at the marina as part of its wider activities in the local area, which also include the production of Shimanami Leaf using previously uncultivated farmland and its marine business with Saxdor.

Representative director Tetsuhiro Okamoto said the company aims to support people in enjoying marine activities in the Seto Inland Sea, which is known for its island scenery. Drawing on the name, the company also said Solarina reflects “the relationship between the sun, nature and the sea, as well as the marina’s role as a starting point for island journeys and a place to take a break from everyday life”.
