The Sheboygan Marina, a city-owned facility on the shores of Lake Michigan, is set to begin a revitalisation project, with contractor Edgewater Resources responsible for the initial upgrades. Built in 1993, the marina has faced challenges in maintaining occupancy and providing full access to its slips over the years.

In 2023, the city announced an estimated $11-$13 million USD plan for the overall revitalisation and hired SmithGroup to develop a conceptual master plan. The $3.29 million contract with Edgewater Resources will focus on installing modern docks and implementing an ice mitigation system to help increase dock occupancy.

The marina currently provides a boater lounge, restrooms and showers, a laundry room, parking, waste collection and dock access to electricity, water and Wi-Fi. The facility also offers vessel slips ranging from 30-45ft (nine to 14 metres).

In a report by Mikenzie Hammel of TMJ4 News, Peter Mayer, chair of the Sheboygan Marina, Parks and Forestry Commission, said: “One of the most important things isn’t just building a nice, attractive marina for outsiders to come in, but to build a financially successful marina. I want to have our marina be a marina that is great 30 years from now.”
