Marina Development, Inc. (MDI) has completed a major expansion at Sunset Marina in Monroe, Tennessee, extending the marina into the cove with new slips and a floating walkway connecting the dock area with the shore.

MDI specialises in freshwater commercial marina construction, working on projects such as marina developments, expansions, renovations, wave attenuation systems and custom marine infrastructure.

At Sunset Marina in Plankyard Harbor, the company expanded the facility to add dock space and improve access for customers, alongside existing services including boat rentals, cabins, houseboats, a ship’s store and a waterfront restaurant.

MDI has created space for 100 new boat slips across three dock sections. The two single-sided sections, which make up the top of the T-shaped layout, each have 20 standard slips measuring about 3.7 metres by 9.1 metres, with 1.2-metre-wide fingers and 3.7-metre-wide head pier.

The third section has 30 slips on each side in a back-to-back arrangement, with each slip also measuring about 3.7 metres by 9.1 metres. Overall, the sections position the slips towards the centre of the cove and provide access for marina customers.

MDI also installed a 213-metre floating walkway, measuring 3.7 metres wide, to connect the new slips to the shoreline. To complete the route, a 1.8-metre by 7.3-metre gangway joins the floating walkway to the shore.

MDI started work on the project with initial product delivery on 23 September 2025 and completed the expansion on 20 March 2026.
