The Baltimore City Fire Department (BCFD) has completed a rebuild of its marine fire and rescue docks, with a floating concrete dock system from SF Marina to meet its operational demands. The new dock infrastructure enhances safety, vessel access and adaptability at the historic fire station located near Fort McHenry, a site central to Baltimore’s busy waterfront.

The previous dock system, although sheltered from severe weather, had deteriorated over time and no longer met the department's requirements in terms of size, stability or performance. With the BCFD’s role in responding to maritime emergencies, reliable and efficient dockside infrastructure is essential.
McLean Contracting installed SF Marina’s 1200 Series floating concrete pontoons. The structures are engineered for commercial use, featuring a low centre of gravity that enhances stability and a low freeboard for easy boarding by smaller vessels. Larger boats benefit from a stainless steel cantilevered ramp system designed for swift and safe crew access. Additional installations include boat lift systems, HD galvanised ship cleats, mooring dolphins, walkway lighting and a scalable platform for future expansion.

The updated facility accommodates the department’s fleet, and the modern dock system reflects the department’s ongoing commitment to efficient marine emergency response across Baltimore’s active port waters.
