Setur Marinas is redeveloping Kalamış and Fenerbahçe Marina in Istanbul, with plans focused on larger green and social areas, wider public access and environmental measures across the waterfront.

Located in Kadıköy district on Istanbul’s Asian side, the marina can accommodate more than 1,200 vessels in the water and 220 on land, including vessels up to 65 metres in length. The marina also offers technical services, including lift and launch operations, machinery maintenance and repair works.

The transformation project aims to redesign around 3,000 metres of waterfront space and improve public access to the shoreline, with the Kalamış and Fenerbahçe breakwaters set to open to visitors as coastal walking routes.

A 640-metre section of shoreline previously accessible only to yacht owners will also open to the public, alongside improved access to the beach area upon completion of the project.

Plans for the marina include expanded green areas, walking paths, seating areas and recreational spaces. Green space across the marina area will increase from 5,334sqm to 17,859sqm, while the dry dock area will decrease from 23,000sqm to 9,150sqm.

The project also includes a new 2,500sqm plaza near the waterfront for public events, art activities and daily social use, with cafés and dining areas.

Sustainability measures in the project include increasing electric vehicle charging capacity at the marina to over 60 stations, as well as transitioning marina vessels and land vehicles used for operations to electric power.

The marina’s waste management infrastructure will also be renewed under a zero-waste and zero-discharge approach. Recycling rates will increase, and four separate systems will be used for water recovery and protection.

The project also includes facilities designed to support sailing and sports activities for young people, accessible spaces for people with disabilities, and initiatives focused on marine life and street animals. Artificial reef initiatives are also planned to support the marine ecosystem.

Emre Doru, general manager of Setur Marinas, said: “With this project, we are designing not just for today, but for the future. Our goal is to provide high-quality services to both the local community and our guests through an environmentally conscious and sustainable marina operation, while preserving the region’s natural beauty and generating economic, social and cultural benefits. In this new project, we are creating social spaces that blend seamlessly with the sea; with an approach that preserves the neighbourhood spirit, we are designing a natural way of life that integrates with the streets. We are adopting an approach that prioritises not just aesthetics, but also urban tranquillity. We are bringing to life a project that will add value to Kadıköy and serve as a model for Istanbul.”

Part of the Koç Group, Setur Marinas currently operates 13 marinas and one dry dock facility across Türkiye and the eastern Mediterranean region.
