Sanctuary Cove Marina on the Gold Coast has begun a new stage of expansion as demand rises for larger vessels in south east Queensland. The project will increase berthing capacity and support marine activity across the region.

The K Arm extension, near the InterContinental Sanctuary Cove Resort lagoon pool and beach club, will add 13 berths for vessels between 18 and 20 metres. Construction is underway and is expected to finish by late January 2026, according to Business News Australia.

The marina has been expanding in stages since 2020. Once complete, it will have around 400 berths, including 63 for superyachts. Mulpha, the facility’s owner, said the expansion is needed to meet demand and maintain capacity for the annual Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show.

Greg Shaw, Mulpha’s CEO, said: “The marina itself has been a great investment, but it also plays a crucial role in making Sanctuary Cove a world-class attraction and generating demand for our other facilities and developments.” Shaw also noted occupancy remains high and pointed to the fully booked 2025 boat show as evidence of interest in larger vessels. Shaw added that demand is expected to increase further as the Brisbane 2032 Olympics approach.

Steve Sammes, general manager of the marina, said the new berths will allow the facility to accommodate more large vessels and superyachts. He added that the expansion supports activities such as boat tours, fishing charters and extended cruising, while preparing for more international vessel visits.

Sanctuary Cove Marina provides dockside assistance, Wi-Fi, private amenities and a fuel dock. Its berths accommodate vessels from small recreational boats to 165ft (50 metres) superyachts. The facility also offers provisioning, detailing and transport services, and the precinct provides open-air storage for vehicles, boats and caravans.
