Ports de Balears, together with Palma City Council, has presented a redevelopment project for Portitxol in the port of Palma. The plan aims to open the port to the city and improve connections between residents, visitors and the waterfront.

The proposal involves freeing up 4,300sqm for public use and creating 5,500sqm of green and recreational areas. Architectural barriers that currently restrict access to the sea will be removed, and port operations will be reorganised to better meet both residents’ needs and sustainable use criteria.
The project includes modernising infrastructure and creating new berths for small boats. The sailing school currently managed by the Portitxol Nautical Club will move to the fishing pier, while the dry dock and boat ramp will be relocated to the Troneres area. Troneres and Sa Roqueta, which currently have limited services, will receive a new fuel station adapted for boats and optimised water space for social moorings.
A walkable roof is planned along the outer wall of Troneres, providing new space for storage, workshops and other port functions. A similar solution at the nearby Molinar port includes a popular sea-facing viewpoint for residents and visitors.
The redevelopment will also create a more accessible port area. The current four-metre height difference between the promenade and the docks will be removed to create a level waterfront. Over 4,300sqm will be available for public use, including a new public space facing the sea.
Carrer de la Sirena will be converted into a pedestrian zone, while vehicle access will be reorganised to prioritise residents and pedestrians. An underground parking facility is also planned to replace areas currently used for traffic and dry dock facilities, allowing more green and recreational spaces.

Portitxol is located at the eastern end of the Port of Palma and is currently a small port used mainly for mooring small boats. It has been a place for walking, leisure and open-air activities for Palma residents, as well as for recreational boating due to its accessible berths. Ports de Balears manages 460 moorings directly in Portitxol and a further 100 through the Portitxol Nautical Club, mostly for vessels under eight metres in length.
