The Paynesville Maritime Precinct upgrade in Victoria, Australia, has entered its final phase, with major marine works nearing completion, East Gippsland Shire Council has confirmed.

Located in Paynesville on the Gippsland Lakes, the upgrade aims to increase berthing capacity in response to growing demand across the town and surrounding waterways. A concrete panel seawall now outlines the expanded footprint, and the northern section has been completed.

Marina Jetty 2 is nearing completion, and Jetty 3 is currently being prefabricated offsite ahead of installation, which is expected to begin within two weeks. Work on the boat ramp is ongoing, while the service jetty is almost ready for installation in March. Underground services across the site are also set to be finalised this month.

After the marine works are complete, the project will move into its final civil stage. This phase includes kerbing, landscaping and asphalting of the car park. The completed precinct will also feature a grassed recreation area beside the new boardwalk and jetties, which will provide public access to the waterfront.

Mayor Cr Jodie Ashworth said: “This project is about delivering a long-lasting, high-quality maritime precinct that supports tourism, strengthens local businesses and meets the needs of our boating community well into the future. It has been a challenging project, and it has taken longer than the community anticipated. We redesigned some elements to ensure that the project delivers lasting benefits.”

Funding for the upgrade comes from the Australian Government, the Victorian Government and the East Gippsland Shire Council under the Paynesville Maritime Precinct Masterplan.
