Shellharbour City Council in New South Wales (NSW) has awarded a contract to J Hutchinson Pty Ltd for the construction of a new boathouse at Shell Cove Waterfront. The facility is expected to support marine, tourism and commercial activities in the area.

The project is funded by Shellharbour City Council and the NSW Government’s Regional Tourism Activation Fund Round 2. The contract followed an Early Tenderer Involvement process, in which shortlisted contractors worked with the council to refine the design and meet construction standards.

The boathouse will provide dry boat storage for vessels up to 10 metres, maintenance facilities for large and small boats, workshops, retail spaces, office areas and car parking.

Shellharbour City Mayor Chris Homer stated: “Council’s endorsement of the boathouse project is a significant step forward for Shell Cove and our boating community. This facility will be a valuable asset for residents and visitors alike, supporting recreation, tourism and economic development across the region.”

Tara Moriarty, Minister for Regional NSW, commented: “This facility will deliver immediate construction jobs and long-term benefits such as more tourism, more trade and more reasons for people to spend time and money in the area. It’s a smart investment that will help the community grow and thrive.”

The boathouse will complement Shellharbour Marina, which provides 270 berths, vessel lifting, fuel and commercial marine services. Located in the centre of the waterfront precinct, the marina also offers access to dining, retail and accommodation options.
