Nanny Cay Marina in the British Virgin Islands broke ground on Friday, 31 October 2025, for a large-scale expansion project. The event took place on-site and drew government officials, community representatives and members of the marine sector.

Premier and Minister of Finance Natalio D. Wheatley, Governor Daniel Pruce and Deputy Premier and Minister of Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change Julian Fraser attended the ceremony.

The project includes a custom-built Marine Travelift capable of hoisting vessels up to 80ft (24 metres). It will also add 112 slips for catamarans, sailing and power yachts and vessels up to 165ft (50 metres) in length. The yard area will also expand to support increased activity and maintenance needs.

Cameron McColl, Chairman of Nanny Cay stated: “This expansion reflects our ongoing commitment to improving facilities for the BVI’s marine community and strengthening Nanny Cay’s position as the heart of Caribbean yachting.”

Premier Wheatley said: “This marina expansion represents the first of three phases in a broader reimagining of the Nanny Cay Resort and Marina - a transformative project to be completed over approximately three years with an overall investment of between $30 and $40 million USD in new works and amenities.”

Miles Sutherland-Pilch, General Manager of Nanny Cay, also commented: “We were seeing increasing demand from larger multihulls and monohulls, and this project was designed to meet that need.”

First announced in 2024, the project also includes improvements to the boatyard, a new beach, dining venues, a swimming pool and a retail village. Classrooms for maritime training and spaces for the Royal BVI Yacht Club’s dinghy programme are also part of the plan.
