Mississauga is preparing to open its newly revitalised Marina Park on the west side of Port Credit Harbour. The redesigned park now features a mix of programmable multi-use spaces, open green areas and a continuous water’s edge promenade, developed to reflect the community’s cultural heritage and enhance waterfront access for residents and visitors.

The redevelopment of Marina Park is part of the Port Credit Harbour West Parks project, which began in 2008 under the City of Mississauga’s Waterfront Parks Strategy. Building upon updates from the 2019 Strategy Refresh, the project focused on improving shoreline infrastructure, boosting accessibility and creating a safe and sustainable waterfront environment.

Key features of the revitalised Marina Park include a riverfront promenade designed for walking and passive recreation, redeveloped boat launch ramps for motorised and non-motorised vessels, flexible parking that doubles as event space and shaded green terraces. The design also retains the charter boat docking area, introduces a new pedestrian underpass connecting to Port Credit Memorial Park (West) and raises the park elevation above the 100-year flood line for long-term flood protection.

Public engagement has been central to the park’s development, with community consultations held from 2013 to 2018. Feedback consistently highlighted the importance of retaining maritime functions, such as fishing and boating, while opening up the park’s potential as a cultural and recreational destination.

The revitalisation has been led by Dillon Consulting, with support from Shoreplan Engineering Ltd, MJS Consultants Inc, JD Barnes, and Archaeological Services Inc.

According to Mississauga Ward 1 Councillor Stephen Dasko, “The project highlights the design for Memorial and Marina Park, including connections to the river’s edge, a working port, active sport fishery, trails, a public gathering space, a riverside promenade and interpretive features.”
