The City of Martinez in Contra Costa County will reopen the renovated Martinez Fishing Pier on 8 November 2025 at the Martinez Marina. The event will include a ribbon-cutting and allow the public to see the pier’s upgraded design and amenities.

Martinez Fishing Pier

The reopening marks the completion of a renovation project that began in 2019, when the Martinez City Council approved funding for inspections and design development.

In 2023, the city secured a $2.5 million USD Community Project Funding Grant from the Department of Housing and Urban Development, supported by Congressmen Mike Thompson and John Garamendi.

Construction began in November 2024 after environmental reviews and permits were completed. DRS Marine, Inc. of Vallejo led the repairs, including installing new sheet piles, replacing missing piles and restoring damaged parts.

After the repairs, the pier received new decking and railings, upgraded lighting, benches, picnic tables and waste receptacles. Accessibility improvements were also added with tables, seating and railings. These upgrades are expected to extend the pier’s lifespan by around 50 years.

Martinez Marina

The reopening coincides with ongoing waterfront planning. In July 2025, the City of Martinez entered formal discussions with Tucker Sadler to explore a public-private partnership for the marina and waterfront area. The Martinez Marina offers over 300 slips and amenities such as dock access, utilities, parking and nearby services for boaters.
