According to KRIS 6 News, fire department units responded to a reported commercial fire at 13501 SPID near the marina. Crews arrived to find flames spreading across parts of the docks and nearby boats. More than 200ft (61 metres) of dock infrastructure was consumed.

The outlet added that at least 20 boats were destroyed, citing Gabriel Presley of Sunset Bait Co. The fire affected slips 14-34, and some vessels sank.

Marker 37 Marina later addressed the incident in a public statement, saying the fire had devastated most of its wet slips and many of its fishing guides’ boats.

“We are incredibly grateful that no one was hurt, but we know several guides lost their livelihoods overnight. Our thoughts and prayers are with them and everyone affected from this terrible tragedy. At this time, the fire department remains on site with us investigating the cause of the fire,” the statement read.

“For over 30 years, this community has meant everything to us. We are committed to rebuilding as quickly as possible and will share updates soon - including ways we can come together to support the guides and those impacted,” it added.

The marina said the entire property would remain closed on Tuesday, 24 February. It added that its retail stores, The Polynesian Bar, The Hemingway Bar, the new Hemingway Grill, Snoopy’s, Scoopy’s and The Cuban were not affected by the fire. Snoopy’s and Scoopy’s are set to reopen at 11:00 on Wednesday, 25 February.
