The French Development Agency (AFD) and the Communauté d’Agglomération du Centre de la Martinique (CACEM) signed an agreement for a grant to fund environmental studies needed for the proposed expansion of Étang Z’Abricot marina in Fort-de-France, Martinique, on 6 October 2026.

AFD will provide a €200,000 ($225,000 USD) grant through the Overseas Fund, a programme that helps local authorities in French overseas territories prepare for development projects. The grant will support studies on the marina expansion’s potential environmental effects and the preparation of documents required for regulatory approval before construction can begin.
Étang Z’Abricot marina, established through a development project launched in the late 1980s, currently has around 500 berths. CACEM plans to increase its capacity to nearly 1,100 by constructing a new protective breakwater and enlarging the Grives basin. The proposed €77.5 million ($87.2 million) expansion also covers plans to develop the waterfront into public esplanades, promenades and commercial spaces accessible to residents and visitors.
