Marine Structures has been appointed to lead a full-scale redevelopment of the Southport Yacht Club marina on the Gold Coast, a project set to modernise one of Queensland’s key boating hubs and respond to growing demand for improved marine infrastructure.

The upgrade follows the successful installation of the club’s mega yacht berth, which has supported an increase in visits from international superyachts. The latest development will extend across the entire marina, with a staged replacement of seven piers and over 250 pontoons, creating a 273-berth layout. Several of the new berths will be designated specifically for superyachts. The project is being delivered in stages.

Marine Structures will deploy its Mega Elite and Super Elite pontoon systems throughout the redevelopment. These systems are noted for their structural performance, featuring external structural beams, a five-sided design and proprietary joining technology.

“Our Superior pontoons with external structural beams deliver exceptional structural integrity and stability,” said Marine Structures Director John Hogan. “With greater mass and smarter concrete and GFRP reinforcement design, these pontoons are engineered to perform and built to stand the test of time.”

Additional upgrades will include metered power and water pedestals and 600mm cast alloy horn bollards on larger berths, which aligns the marina with current standards for function and durability.

Southport Yacht Club General Manager Brett James stated: “This project represents the next chapter in our long-standing partnership with Marine Structures. It’s a relationship built on trust, innovation, and a shared commitment to delivering world-class marine infrastructure that will serve our members and the broader boating community for generations to come.”
