Marina Port Valencia has begun a water sampling campaign as part of its environmental monitoring programme to record existing water conditions within the port and nearby offshore areas before construction activity starts.

The campaign will establish baseline environmental data so that future measurements can be assessed against clearly defined conditions. It also seeks to strengthen understanding of water quality across different areas of the marina.

Sampling has taken place in the inner basin, Marina Norte, Marina Sur, the harbour entrance and surrounding offshore waters. Teams collected both surface and deep-water samples for physical and chemical analysis to reflect conditions across the port.

The results of the sampling will support research on water quality and provide technical evidence for decision-making in port management.

The initiative is part of the Cátedra del Mar Centre for Innovation and Sustainability in the Yachting Industry. The centre was created by Marina Port Valencia in partnership with the Polytechnic University of Valencia, the University of Alicante and the Valencia Port Authority to encourage cooperation between academia, industry and public authorities.

Marina Port Valencia stated: “Sustainability calls for measurable and traceable understanding. This sampling campaign provides a solid baseline for monitoring the environmental impact of the planned works, while also bolstering scientific capacity to better understand the behaviour of port waters.”

The Cátedra del Mar was launched in November 2025 at the Edificio del Reloj in Valencia. It promotes research, technological development and knowledge-sharing focused on responsible marine management and the Mediterranean yachting sector.

Its work includes decarbonisation in the yachting industry, ecological restoration projects, mapping sustainable initiatives and preparing technical studies to support marine management and conservation.
