Marina Ibiza, in partnership with the Vellmarí Foundation, has launched the Marina Ibiza Posidonia Meadow in Talamanca Bay, a marine restoration project that aims to support the recovery of seagrass in the Mediterranean ecosystem.

Talamanca Bay is located around two kilometres from Ibiza Town and has lost almost half of its Posidonia meadows in recent decades. Across the Mediterranean, around 34 percent of these meadows have declined, which has raised concerns for marine biodiversity.
The project began with the planting of 1,500 Posidonia oceanica plants, a seagrass species that helps maintain water quality, produces oxygen and provides shelter for marine species.

The initiative also invites clients, visitors and the local community to take part by adopting individual Posidonia plants, with each one contributing to the expansion of the meadow as more are introduced.
Marine biologist Manu San Félix of the Vellmarí Association led the collaboration and will provide expertise in Posidonia planting and monitoring.
