The Madeira Ports Authority (APRAM) will study the possible construction of a marina for superyachts in 2026. The plan was announced by the regional secretary for the economy, José Manuel Rodrigues, during the presentation of the 2026 budget in the Madeira parliament.

Rodrigues said the assessment reflects growing interest from the superyacht sector in Madeira and will assess whether the region can support a marina dedicated to this segment.
The announcement was made during discussions on the regional budget for 2026, which totals €2.329 billion (about $2.7 billion USD), along with the investment plan valued at €1.002 billion (around $1.1 billion USD).
Total planned investment under the secretariat stands at about €70 million, funded through regional and European sources. More than half of the department’s budget will go towards investment, job creation and wealth creation.
The budget also includes measures to maintain economic growth, diversify the productive base and support business modernisation. Business support includes €58 million for the Institute for Business Development, along with an additional €51 million secured under the recovery and resilience plan for regional companies and programmes linked to reindustrialisation and artificial intelligence.
Port operations were also discussed during the presentation. Rodrigues said the commercial port of Caniçal, in the municipality of Machico, faced a near breakdown in supply due to increased economic activity, but supply has since returned to normal. He said Madeira will need to assess future port needs.
