The City of Jacksonville has approved the demolition of the existing marina at the Shipyards, according to a report by Karen Brune Mathis of Jax Daily Record. The approval allows work to begin on new floating docks along the Downtown Northbank of the St. Johns River.

The city issued a permit for a $2 million USD project to dismantle marina structures and install new facilities at 1406 E. Bay Street. Hal Jones Contractor, a division of Vecellio & Grogan Inc., is leading the work, with Tampa-based Moffatt & Nichol serving as part of the design-build team.

The project will replace the existing docks with floating concrete docks equipped for modern boating needs. Plans include 78 slips for vessels ranging from nine to 17 metres (30-55 ft), along with one pier capable of accommodating vessels up to 122 metres (400ft).

Two slips will be set aside for water taxis. Utilities such as power, water, fuel, sewage pump-out and fire protection are also expected. Bellingham Marine has been chosen to manufacture the docks.

The marina work is designed to align with other ongoing projects within the Shipyards development, including the Four Seasons Hotel & Residences, a marina support building and the Riverwalk.
