Marina Vela in Barcelona has received an Inward Processing Relief (IPR) permit, which allows non-EU flagged yachts with non-EU owners to operate under this customs procedure while in Spain and applies to vessels using the marina and nearby shipyard facilities for refit, maintenance or technical work.

Eligible vessels can temporarily import into Spain without paying the 21 percent value-added tax or customs duties for refit work, maintenance or spare parts installation. The IPR procedure may be set up at Marina Vela before a vessel goes to a shipyard and remains active on its return.

Part of the Azulona Marinas portfolio, Marina Vela accommodates vessels between 12 metres and 90 metres. It supports berthing for seasonal stays and technical visits, with access to marine services, marine businesses, restaurants and event spaces.

The marina is located near the W Barcelona hotel, close to MB92 shipyard facilities and about 10 minutes from Barcelona city centre.

Ana Sanchez, marinas director at Azulona Marinas, said: “This is an important development for yachts looking to winter at Marina Vela. Barcelona and the surrounding region are already firmly established as leading hubs for refit and repair, and this new permit is a significant step in further enhancing the advantages and flexibility available to yachts choosing to spend the winter with us while undertaking technical works.”
