Harbor Island West Marina in San Diego has officially started its redevelopment project after receiving final building permits in July 2025. The project will involve a major upgrade of both landside and waterside facilities to create a more modern environment for the boating community.

Harbor Island West Marina

The redevelopment covers the complete reconstruction of all buildings, docks and related infrastructure. Located at the western end of Harbor Island, the marina provides over 600 boat slips sized between six and 30 metres (21 and 100ft), with access to San Diego Bay and a short trip to the Pacific Ocean. The work will proceed in planned phases over 18 to 24 months, with the first phase targeting the renovation of the 100 and 200 docks.

Construction activities began with preliminary site work between July and September 2025, including trenching in the west parking lot and installation of temporary utilities, fencing and stormwater containment systems. From September to November, existing buildings will be vacated and temporary office and shower facilities set up, while demolition of older structures begins. The dock renovation phase for the 100 and 200 docks is scheduled to start in mid-November and continue through March 2026.
