The city council has approved the first phase of expanding the City of Gulfport Mooring Field on Boca Ciega Bay in Florida, with initial surveys and environmental studies planned.

According to Spectrum Bay News 9, the decision covers the initial stage valued at $95,000 USD, with a second phase expected to focus on engineering work and the construction and installation of the mooring system.
Located south of the Gulfport Casino, Williams Pier and the municipal beach, the mooring field currently provides 25 rental mooring spots available throughout the year for visiting vessels. Under the proposal, 75 additional mooring balls would be installed.
The mooring field operates as an extension of the Gulfport Municipal Marina, which covers about 11 acres of land and around 7.5 acres of water. The marina includes public wet slips, dry storage areas, a public boat ramp with trailer parking, fuel stations and guest docking facilities.
