The Batavia Coast Marina is undergoing a transformation, with new upgrades both on land and at sea marking the next phase of the precinct’s long-term revitalisation strategy.

At the heart of the redevelopment is a $3.3 million AUD boat pen expansion, currently under construction. SMC Marine Western Australia has been contracted to deliver 34 new floating pens for vessels up to 25 metres in length. The expanded berthing capacity is expected to boost tourism and improve marine access in the Midwest, with completion anticipated by mid-2025.

The Batavia Coast Marina, managed by the Department of Transport (DoT), currently accommodates 84 pens for both commercial and recreational vessels. The new infrastructure will expand capacity and provide modern service facilities to better meet the needs of Geraldton’s marine industry and growing tourism sector.

In parallel, the Station Square development, backed by a $4.4 million AUD investment from the Cook Labor Government, is reshaping the marina’s eastern edge into a mixed-use precinct. Located adjacent to the Geraldton Railway Station, the works include new roads, landscaped footpaths, public open spaces and a variety of residential and commercial lots.

Although Station Square lies just outside the marina basin, it is viewed as an integral extension of the wider Batavia Coast Marina precinct, enhancing pedestrian connectivity between the waterfront and the city centre. The latest initiatives form the long-term Batavia Coast Marina vision which continues to guide Geraldton’s evolution into a vibrant coastal city.
