Florida’s Fort Pierce Redevelopment Agency (FPRA) has presented the 5.9-acre conceptual design for Marina Square, outlining a waterfront plan that links the Indian River, the marina and downtown.

The design was finalised following months of community engagement and stakeholder input. According to the FPRA, residents called for markets and events to remain central, flexible spaces for different age groups, infrastructure that supports active use, stronger natural and educational features, and adequate parking.
The project ties in with Fort Pierce City Marina, a publicly owned facility in downtown established in 1937. The marina features a modern dock system, a storm protection system and offers public amenities such as fuel, Wi-Fi, showers, laundry and on-site dining, while also hosting fishing tournaments and serving as a gateway to the Atlantic through the Fort Pierce inlet.
Marina-related improvements are included in the plan, with expanded docks and a riverfront promenade designed to connect people to the water and strengthen links with businesses along Indian River Drive.

Other proposed features include open lawns, shaded groves, a playground, a splash pad, a dog park and a central plaza for markets and live music. The Saturday market was identified as a key partner, with space for more than 200 vendor booths incorporated into the design.
A new Marina Square logo was also selected through an online survey, reflecting water, mangroves, sunrise and wildlife as defining elements of the site.
The project marks Phase 1 of the Downtown Master Plan adopted in November 2022, which aims to revitalise Fort Pierce’s core through stronger riverfront connections and public spaces.
