Oman’s Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology has appointed Meridian Engineering Consultancy to carry out the design and supervision for the planned Khor Grama marina, a development positioned to enhance marine tourism in Ash Sharqiyah South. The site lies about 22 kilometres east of Sur and is centred on Khor Grama, the country’s largest lagoon in the north.

Oman Tender Board records show Meridian submitted the lowest bid at 275,830.8 Omani riyals ($718,000 USD), which covers detailed studies, engineering designs and supervision plans for a marina intended to accommodate 75 yachts and 20 excursion vessels. The plans also include a designated bay for fishermen, areas for water-based recreation and safety and security installations.

Work under the contract includes dredging the channel and basin, grading and landscaping of approximately 300,000sqm, providing shaded parking and installing fuel supply points. Meridian will also prepare construction tender packages and oversee the technical delivery during the building phase.

The project’s masterplan was prepared by Italian firm Giò Forma in partnership with F&M Middle East, focusing on a balance between supporting existing fishing livelihoods and offering amenities for visitors.

According to a report by Jomar Mendoza of Oman Observer, the consultancy award followed an international tender process launched in August 2024, which drew interest from 23 companies. Officials view the Khor Grama development as part of wider efforts to expand marine tourism and diversify income along the Ras al Hadd-Sur coastline.

Once completed, the marina and its facilities are expected to create opportunities in marine services, tourism and hospitality, providing new income streams for local communities and adding to Oman’s coastal attractions.
