The City of Port Lincoln has commenced construction of a new community pontoon at Lincoln Cove Marina in South Australia, with the project expected to benefit local marina users and visitors and support waterfront activity across the Eyre Peninsula.

Following the removal of the marina’s existing small pontoon, a new 60-metre structure will be installed near the Port Lincoln Marina Hotel and adjacent to the boat ramp to provide short-term berthing space and accommodate larger recreational and tourism vessels.
Construction is expected to continue through late June and early July 2026, depending on weather and site conditions. Additional work is also planned along the seawall near the Marina Hotel to install connections for the pontoon’s dual gangways.
The city said the project is intended to meet demand for marine facilities within the marina precinct. Once completed, it is expected to increase berthing capacity, reduce congestion around existing infrastructure and improve access within the waterfront area.
The project is being funded through a $700,000 AUD ($493,000 USD) contribution from the South Australian Government’s Thriving Regions Fund – Enabling Infrastructure Program, administered by the Department of Primary Industries and Regions. The council is contributing a further $350,000 AUD ($246,000 USD).
Mayor Diana Mislov said: “The new pontoon will provide long-term benefits for both the local community and visitors. This project is an important investment in our marina and supports both our local boating community and growing visitor economy. The new community pontoon will enhance the visitor experience and deliver real benefits for our local tourism operators and marine-based businesses.”
The project is part of the Marina Refresh Strategy within the Port Lincoln Precincts Master Plan – CBD, Foreshore, Marina and aligns with the wider regional planning focused on business growth and tourism across the Eyre Peninsula.
