Calero Marinas has secured a 35-year renewal of its concession to operate Puerto Calero marina in Lanzarote, following official approval by Puertos Canarios. The agreement was confirmed during a board session in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

Puerto Calero is a key maritime hub for both international vessels and local users on Lanzarote’s southern coast. Since its opening in 1982, the facility has grown from 190 berths to over 450, offering space for vessels up to 80 metres in length, and hosted the first dedicated superyacht service in the Canary Islands.
The concession renewal includes investment plans exceeding €12 million. The funding will be directed towards upgrading infrastructure, improving services and implementing new technologies focused on energy efficiency and sustainability. The inclusion of intelligent information systems and next-generation service features is also expected to strengthen Puerto Calero’s position in the European nautical sector.
The administrative process, which was carried out in coordination with the Canary Islands Association of Marinas), marks the first time a marina concession has been renewed within its original period in the archipelago.
José Calero Rodríguez, president and founder of Calero Marinas, described the moment as the result of decades of collective effort. He reflected on the long journey since 1982, crediting the development of Puerto Calero to the work of a committed team, the collaboration of resident businesses and the continued support of its users. For him, the renewal is not only a legal milestone but also the continuation of a shared vision.
CEO José Juan Calero said that Puerto Calero has always been the foundation and guiding model for the company’s other marinas. With operations now spanning four locations in the Canary Islands, he pointed out that thousands of users visit each year and that their trust has been earned through consistent service quality and attention to detail. He also expressed gratitude to the longstanding Calero Marinas team for their continued dedication, many of whom have been with the company for nearly 40 years.
The concession renewal has received institutional backing from Puertos Canarios under the Canary Islands Government, the Cabildo of Lanzarote, the Yaiza Town Council, the Chamber of Commerce of Lanzarote and La Graciosa and several national marina associations.
