Geotechnical investigations are underway at Brannan Island marina in California as part of early site work connected to a proposed restoration of the facility.

The California Department of Parks and Recreation is examining subsurface conditions at the site, located within Brannan Island State Recreation Area in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta.
The investigation includes drilling four exploratory borings within the existing marina area. Each boring will measure about 4 inches (10cm) in diameter and extend to depths of up to 51.5ft (approximately 16 metres). Soil samples taken during the process will be recorded and reviewed for future analysis.
The work uses a truck-mounted drill with a mud rotary auger, with drilling taking place on land at least 30ft (nine metres) away from the base of the levees around the marina.
Information from the investigation will guide engineering parameters and recommendations for the proposed reconstruction of the marina.
Brannan Island State Recreation Area includes a network of waterways and natural habitats, supporting activities such as boating, windsurfing and swimming. The park also has campgrounds, picnic areas and accessible trails, along with designated berthing areas that provide boating access.
