Berkeley Marina has introduced its first all-electric workboat, marking a step forward in its transition toward sustainable marine operations. The addition of the Vita Seal supports the marina’s environmental initiatives and sets a benchmark for clean, low-noise and efficient harbour management along California’s coast.

The Vita Seal is built with electric propulsion technology from Evoy and Vita and is designed to carry out various essential duties, including vessel towing, debris clearance and dock patrols, all without generating emissions or significant noise. As a busy marina in the San Francisco Bay Area, Berkeley Marina’s adoption of the electric vessel signals a broader shift in the maritime industry’s approach to environmental responsibility.

Sean Crothers, Waterfront Supervisor at Berkeley Marina, noted the operational benefits of the vessel, stating, “We have a lot of docks to cover, and an electric-powered boat is the best way to get around. Even without a fast charger, battery use hasn’t been an issue. Its torquey, on-demand power is a definite asset.”

The Vita Seal serves as a working example of the advantages of electric marine mobility. With plug-in charging, silent operation and zero emissions, the vessel enhances the marina’s capabilities while aligning with California’s push for cleaner waterfront infrastructure. The boat also helps raise awareness of sustainable practices among boaters and visitors.

Evoy and Vita, the companies behind the Vita Seal’s technology, develop electric motors and vessels tailored for both commercial and recreational marine use.

Berkeley Marina’s deployment of the Vita Seal represents a practical and reflective commitment to cleaner marine operations. As harbours worldwide seek to modernise their fleets, electric vessels are emerging as viable, forward-thinking solutions for sustainable waterfront management. The move reflects a growing trend toward greener infrastructure across U.S. marinas.
