Bayshore Marina, a summer destination in Bay Port, Michigan, has announced the immediate closure of its property to all off-season activities. This includes shore fishing in the autumn and spring, as well as ice fishing and lake access during the winter months.

The marina has been a community hub since the 1940s, offering opportunities for fishing and access to Wildfowl Bay. Owners Tom and Julie Stoyka, who have operated the marina since 1996, continued the tradition, welcoming visitors year-round.
However, recent developments have made off-season access unsustainable. According to the Stoykas: “A few years ago, an alleged slip and fall during icy winter conditions resulted in a lawsuit against the marina.” Following the incident, insurance costs increased, and the scrutiny from the insurance company has made it impractical to manage off-season risks.
The Stoykas emphasised: “There is just no practical way to limit the risks or control the activities during our off-season when our business is closed (October-April), especially during the snowy/icy months.”
The owners expressed gratitude for the support shown by the community over the years. “We are deeply grateful for the years of friendship and respect shown by those who have enjoyed the marina during the winter in the past. Thank you for your understanding as we proceed with this difficult decision,” they added.
