The Alicante Port Authority has approved a temporary authorisation allowing Marina Puerta de Alicante to continue operating at Quay 14 while court proceedings surrounding the marina concession continue.

Marina Deportiva Alicante

The authorisation allows Marina Puerta de Alicante, S.L. to continue nautical and sporting activities together with leisure, catering, training, commercial and multi-purpose hall operations within the marina’s land facilities.

Covering 1.41 hectares, the approved area includes 8,375sqm allocated for complementary and auxiliary uses, 5,750sqm adjacent to the cliff and 816sqm of water surface area. Annual fees will amount to at least €174,660.25 ($204,000 USD).

Noise control requirements within the permit allow the port authority to request acoustic studies and corrective measures if needed. Jet ski activities are also prohibited across the authorised area, including on land, in the water and on floating pontoons.

The temporary permit follows a legal dispute involving a concession granted in October 2020 for nautical and sporting facilities across Quays 10, 12 and 14. After the High Court of Justice of the Valencian Community (TSJCV) annulled a planning amendment tied to the project, the port authority suspended the concession and issued a provisional permit while the case continued in court.

The Supreme Court later overturned the earlier ruling and referred the case back to the TSJCV for a new judgement following appeals from the port authority and the Valencian regional government. With the current permit nearing expiry and no final decision yet issued on the concession, the port authority approved a new temporary authorisation until the legal process reaches a conclusion.

Located on Spain’s Mediterranean coast, Marina Alicante has capacity for over 700 vessels measuring up to 60 metres in length. The marina includes docking facilities, fuel services, waste collection facilities and a security control centre within the marina tower.
