The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) Governing Board approved environmental permit actions and amendments for Tahoe Keys Marina in California yesterday, 25 June. The decision allows defined works to improve environmental conditions, upgrade infrastructure and support marina operations.

The recent approval includes changes to building height rules within the project area and permission to remove deteriorated structures at the marina. It also allows upgrades intended to support water quality protection, control aquatic invasive species, update recreational facilities and improve scenic conditions.

Fire suppression systems, utility upgrades, electrical capacity for boat charging and lighting improvements are also included in the works.

TRPA said earlier enforcement actions identified floating dock structures that had deteriorated over time. Some of these contained polystyrene, which was breaking down and entering the water and contributing to microplastic pollution.

In 2022, Suntex Marinas acquired the site, which is described as the largest of its kind and the only inland marina on the lake. The 22-acre site includes a full-service boat launch, fuel services, charter operations, a water ski school, on-site dining, and access to trails leading to shoreline areas used for wildlife viewing.
