The City of Sopot and the Pomeranian regional government signed a funding agreement on 9 October 2026 for a 6.7 million PLN ($1.7 million USD) upgrade at Sopot Marina in northern Poland. The project aims to improve berthing facilities, vessel safety and accessibility at the marina on the Gulf of Gdańsk, under a regional initiative to develop water tourism along Poland’s Baltic coast.

The signing was attended by Sopot mayor Magdalena Czarzyńska-Jachim and city treasurer Mirosław Goślicki, alongside Pomeranian Voivodeship marshal Mieczysław Struk and deputy marshal Marcin Skwierawski. The agreement provides approximately 4.65 million PLN ($1.19 million) through the European Funds for Pomerania 2021-2027 programme, covering around 69 percent of the project’s estimated cost.
Sopot Marina previously expanded in 2021 with a 110-metre floating pontoon, 28 mooring spaces and a slipway for Optimist-class dinghies. The latest project will rebuild three lower pontoons, one on the northern side and two on the southern side, to provide 18 berths for recreational and sports vessels. Five berths will accommodate vessels longer than eight metres, and another five will be designated for transient vessels.
Upgrades at the site also aim to improve vessel traffic and safety, reduce architectural and digital barriers and make boarding easier through the installation of a specialist hoist. Sailors will also have upgraded sanitary facilities and additional equipment at the sailing base, with the project scheduled for completion in December 2028.
The investment is part of a wider regional initiative to develop recreational boating infrastructure along Poland’s Baltic coast, which also covers marina upgrades in Władysławowo, Puck, Jastarnia and Gdańsk. According to Deputy marshal Skwierawski, more than 111,000 sailors used the region’s marinas in 2025 and the number of people taking up sailing across Poland has increased by approximately 11,000 each year since 2013.
