Somabay has signed a cooperation agreement with EHAF Consulting Engineers and Benoy for the master planning and design of “The Marina” project on Egypt’s Red Sea coast. The project is part of Somabay’s broader plans as a mixed-use area for tourism, residential and marine activities.

The marina is located within Somabay, south of Hurghada, a coastal destination of about 1,000 hectares, with hotels, residential areas, a golf course and water sports facilities across the site.

EHAF’s role includes engineering pre-concept design, preparation of technical documents and supervision across all stages, including architectural, mechanical, electrical and structural elements. Benoy will lead on master planning, concept design, architectural development and technical reviews.

Ibrahim El Missiri, chief executive officer of Somabay Group, said: “The development of The Marina project represents a pivotal step within Somabay’s strategy aimed at delivering an integrated, high-end destination that combines real estate quality along with tourism experience for all community members. Our cooperation with partners who possess global engineering and architectural expertise reflects our commitment to working with the best in all fields, ensuring the project is executed according to the highest professional and technical standards, with a design that guarantees year-round operation and services.”

Dr. Abdelaziz Fahmy, chairman of EHAF, said the cooperation reflects shared visions around innovation, quality and sustainability, supported by current technologies and international practices. He added that the company’s more than 50 years of experience across the Middle East and Africa supports the project’s engineering and investment value.

John Dawes, director of business development at Benoy, said the design approach focuses on creating a destination with public spaces, residential areas and a balance between commercial, tourism and recreational activities. He added that the aim is to support visitors and the local community.

In October 2025, Somabay also signed an agreement with EDECS for Phase II of the marina’s expansion. The work is expected to increase capacity by about 72,130 cubic metres to accommodate up to more than 260 vessels.
