The Andalusian regional government has completed renovating the jetties at the port of Roquetas de Mar in Almería, Spain, following work that began in late 2024. The nearly €2.5 million ($2.8 million USD) overall project includes a new dry dock and is now in its final stages.

Roquetas de Mar port has more than 240 directly managed berths across eight fixed concrete jetties covering 6,200sqm. Built almost two decades ago, the jetties have retained their original layout, while the renovation uses hollow-core concrete slabs designed for maritime areas.
As part of the regional government’s efforts to improve the port system across Andalusia, the wider project also includes a new dry dock measuring seven metres wide and 20 metres long, with two concrete arms supported by two rows of 500kg breakwater stones.
The €2.5 million ($2.8 million) overall project has reached 93 percent completion as dredging remains pending to improve navigation for vessels.
Regional minister for development and mobility Mario Muñoz-Atanet visited the facilities with Roquetas de Mar mayor Gabriel Amat and the regional government’s delegate in Almería, Francisco Góngora.
Muñoz-Atanet said the project had improved the facility, offering users a port better suited to their needs. He noted that the regional government had invested €150 million ($173 million) in port modernisation in recent years, adding that ports “are a key element in the economic, social and tourist development of cities”.
