On Tuesday, 11 August, the committee on the environment, spatial planning, energy and natural resources of the regional council of Western Greece issued a “positive opinion” on the environmental assessment for the proposed conversion of Platygiali Port into a superyacht marina, with additional commercial, tourism and leisure services.

The committee reviewed the Strategic Environmental Impact Assessment prepared for the Special Spatial Development Plan for Strategic Investment at Platygiali, following a recommendation by Linos Bletsas, deputy regional governor for sustainable development, energy, spatial planning and the environment.

The proposed development is planned at Platygiali Bay-Astakos, in the municipality of Xiromero in Aetolia-Acarnania, Western Greece. Located on the Ionian Sea and close to yachting routes in the Eastern Mediterranean, the site is also near Aktion, Araxos and Ioannina airports.

The investment is being led by Astakos Terminal International Trade & Services, with Mega Yacht Marina & Resort Nautilus Investments serving as the master developer of the “Nautilus Project”. A July 2025 document from the Greek ministry of development describes plans to convert the existing Platygiali commercial port into a superyacht marina with 350 berths, including 105 for vessels of more than 40 metres in length.

According to the same documents, the total investment is €524 million (about $611 million USD), excluding value added tax, with commercial, tourism and leisure uses also planned for the site.

The environmental consultation ran from 11 May to 2 June 2026, before the committee issued its opinion on 11 August. The proposed investment was viewed as supporting the sustainable development of the area by contributing to local growth, promoting alternative tourism and improving the environment of Platygiali and the Astakos area.
