Yacht Club Ancon in Lima, Peru, has expanded its vessel handling capacity following the installation of a new Marine Travelift 35BFMII mobile boat hoist. The equipment has a lifting capacity of 77,000lbs (approximately 34,927kg) and replaces a previous Marine Travelift model that had served the marina for nearly three decades.

Founded in 1950, the marina has supported nautical sports and activities along the Peruvian coast. The facility’s first mobile boat hoist was purchased in 1996, a 35BFM with a 70,000lb capacity, which enabled it to service members and visiting vessels from other affiliated clubs.
With an increase in demand and a rise in vessel sizes, the older hoist was reaching its capacity limits. “Until we received the new Marine Travelift we had limited lifting capacity, which only allowed us to handle a certain percentage of vessels. Our handling capacity has increased considerably, allowing us to handle a wide variety of vessels,” said Operations Manager Samuel Ibarra at Yacht Club Ancon.
The upgraded 35BFMII includes operational enhancements such as two-speed hoists, a jib crane and a sailboat top beam extension. These features aim to improve efficiency, especially for handling sailboats, which represent a substantial portion of the club’s operations. “We have several sailboats in our anchorage area, so we decided to implement the jib crane for mast removal and installation services,” Ibarra explained. “We have already used it several times, and it has proven to be a major operational advantage.”
The addition of the new boat hoist aligns with the club’s objective to maintain a fully equipped marina capable of meeting the needs of its members and visiting vessels. The modernised lifting system positions Yacht Club Ancon as a reference point for marina operations in Peru.
