The Port Authority of the Balearic Islands (Autoridad Portuaria de Baleares - APB) has awarded the long-term concession for the dry dock management at the Port of Maó to Med Sea Yacht Services. The agreement grants the company responsibility for operations at the Cós Nou quay for the next 19 years, with an expected investment of €9 million to modernise the site and improve service efficiency.

Approved by the APB Board of Directors, the concession covers installations for mooring, boat launching and technical support. Planned upgrades include expanded capacity, modernised infrastructure and adjustments to meet the evolving needs of the maritime sector.

Key improvements in the proposal include the extension of the travel lift area through the lengthening of existing breakwaters and the construction of two new ones. This will allow for a doubling of space dedicated to the dry-docking and launching of vessels of different lengths. The mooring systems will be renewed, and new jetties will be added to support vessel movements.

Onshore plans include the construction of a refuelling station with underground tanks holding up to 150,000 litres of fuel. The facility will be equipped with a dedicated repair pit for sailing boats, fast-loading outlets, a mobile fuel unit and five pumps, including two with high flow rates.

The upgrades are intended to bring the dry dock in line with current quality and sustainability standards, and strengthen the Port of Maó’s position in the boat maintenance and repair sector.

The agreement includes an annual occupancy fee of €177,000, with an additional €88,800 per year earmarked for infrastructure improvements. Med Sea Yacht Services will also contribute 4% of its annual turnover under the terms of the concession.

Since 2022, the site has been operated by Desarrollos Concesionales Insulares (DECOIN) under a temporary authorisation set to expire in August 2025. To ensure uninterrupted service during the administrative transition, the APB launched a separate public tender for interim management.

Med Sea Yacht Services was also selected for this temporary authorisation, which will allow the company to oversee the facility until the long-term concession formally begins. The temporary arrangement will be dissolved once the 19-year contract takes effect.
