Between autumn 2024 and spring 2025, Marina Projects Limited delivered a programme of capital works for Marina Developments Ltd (MDL), valued at £4.8 million. The works form part of MDL’s ongoing investment in its network of 18 marinas across the United Kingdom.

The scope of the collaboration extends beyond construction, with Marina Projects also overseeing marine licensing and managing MDL’s winter maintenance dredging. Coordinating the capital works alongside dredging allowed for both cost and time efficiency, as project teams and marina staff worked in parallel.

The recent projects covered infrastructure upgrades, including pile and pontoon replacements, service improvements and quay wall construction. Locations involved were Ocean Village, Mercury Yacht Harbour, Hamble Point, Brixham, Cobb’s Quay, Northney, Shamrock Quay, Saxon Wharf and Sparkes marinas, as well as Bray and Penton Hook on the River Thames.

Steve Russell, Head of Property Infrastructure at MDL Marinas, stated: “Marina Projects have done an excellent job smoothly project managing a series of significant capital works for various MDL Marinas over the past year, including Bray and Northney, further enhancing the facilities and infrastructure for our berth holders and visitors. These investments reflect our ongoing commitment to providing first-class marina experiences across our network.”

Associate Director Phil Dunn at Marina Projects, highlighted two major projects from the winter of 2024/25. At Sparkes Marina, a new quay wall was constructed along the eastern side that links to the dry stack launch bay. To accommodate the work, almost all vessels were moved ashore or temporarily relocated to Northney Marina while Pier G was replaced and maintenance dredging was carried out. At Bray Marina, Piers A, C and D were replaced, with Pier D becoming a quieter area of the facility.

In addition to project management, Marina Projects provided programme management and budgeting, marine licensing and consents, design and specification, procurement and contract administration. Preparations are already in progress for the 2025/26 winter season.

The delivery of these works reflects the continuing partnership between Marina Projects and MDL, aimed at maintaining and upgrading the group’s marine assets for long-term operational use.
